If You Squeeze Limes It Can Cause a Serious Skin Condition

Many of us who enjoy cooking or making drinks of some sort or another have invariably picked up a lime and squeezed it with our hands. We probably didn’t give it much thought but the fact of the matter is, if you are not careful, doing so could land you right in the emergency room.

The problem is that limes, lemons and other types of citrus fruits can cause a condition known as phytophotodermatitis. It is often discovered by individuals after they squeeze lemons or limes and then are exposed to UV rays. At first, it may look like a sunburn but before long, it continues to deteriorate into skin discoloration and blisters.

That is why it is important to take precautions if you are going to come into contact with citrus juice. Wash your skin thoroughly, paying careful attention to remove all of the juice and if possible, avoid any exposure to the sun unless you use sunscreen. Not only is this an issue that can cause disfigurement, it can lead to severe pain, and that is something that all of us could live without. Make sure you share this with your friends so they know about the dangers of citrus juice.
