Did you realize that almost 30 million people in the United States use tanning beds every year? Included in that number are 2.3 million teenagers! Those are not just some random numbers, they come directly from the FDA. As a matter of fact, even USA Today chimes in, saying that there are more than 400,000 cases of skin cancer every year as well.
Like many teenage girls, Ashley Trenner was absolutely in love with the tanning beds. She used them to keep her skin bronzed every day of the year. The tanning habit started when she was in high school but by the time she got older, she was absolutely obsessed with it. Her mother asked her to stop using the tanning beds when she was in her late 20s but Ashley felt immune to any danger. She even ignored the growing lesion that was showing up on her skin.
The skin cancer foundation says that exposure to UV light causes your body to release chemicals that make you feel good and give you a sense of well-being. This could easily lead to an addiction, and the possibility of cancer.
