How Orange Oil Can Melt Rubber Balloon

Believe it or not, a small drop of orange oil can melt a rubber balloon. As explained in the video description, orange peels have a fairly high concentration of limonene. It is a colorless liquid hydrocarbon that smells very strongly of orange.

As you can see, an orange peel was squeezed on three balloons. Amazingly, all of them burst like a firecracker. Watch it in slow motion!

And because the orange oil is an acid, it dissolves the very thin membrane of the rubber balloon. In fact, this essential orange oil is used in cleaning products as a renewable-based solvent.

But beware! Orange oil is also quite flammable!
