Skimmers are little devices that the bad guys have created, that are attached to ATM machines around the slot where you insert your card. As you put your card into the ATM the skimmer basically collects your information as the card passes through it.
The biggest problems with this type of scam are that not only can it be difficult to spot unless you know what you are looking for, but it is also one of those scams that you will be blissfully unaware of. So you will take your cash from the ATM or pay for your petrol at the pump, walk away with your card, and not even know that the bad guys have got your card details. One of the most important pieces of advice is to cover your PIN number as you enter it, that way at least your pin is still protected.
