If there is one thing in life that can almost be guaranteed it’s when you have a dishwasher full of dishes on a Sunday evening, when you go to put your machine on, it’s only then that you discover you are out of detergent.
You could, of course, choose to wait until you can get to the store, or you could even start to hand wash the plates as you need them but that kind of defeats the objective of having a dishwasher in the first place.
In this clever hack, we are taught how to make your own dishwasher powder, and it is not actually very difficult. You won’t be surprised to learn that one of the ingredients required is my old favourite baking soda. The second ingredient in this cleaning cocktail won’t come as any surprise either, as it is washing up liquid. But the third ingredient did surprise me a little, as it’s plain kitchen salt. The overall cost of this homemade concoction is much cheaper than the pre-produced cleaners and whilst your results might vary I have been delighted by the results. Whether you choose to make your own detergent permanently or just for emergency use, at least, you are now equipped with the appropriate knowledge to get yourself out of a sticky situation.
