It is the moment that everybody must dread. You flush the toilet, and the bowl fills up, rather than emptying. Your toilet is blocked and apart from having the embarrassing issue of telling your husband you blocked the toilet again, you also have to find a way to unblock it, especially if you don’t want an expensive plumbers bill.
The main method for clearing a toilet blockage, as most of us know is the plunger. But how many times when the blockage happens, do you find that you don’t have a plunger to hand? Fear not as this wonderful method will come to your rescue time and time again.
The method relies on some hot water and some washing up liquid. Incase of any overflow I recommend putting towels or some other absorbent material around the toilet basin. Then simply take a cup full of washing up liquid, and pour it into the toilet. Next, you want to fill the toilet almost to the brim with hot water, the more hot water the better. Then go make a nice cup of tea, and relax for twenty minutes. The idea is really simple, basically the hot water and washing up liquid soak into the blockage, eventually lubricating it and allowing it to move. Once the water level is back to normal, which normally takes somewhere in the region of 20 minutes or so, to be extra safe, fill the toilet up one last time with hot water and provided it flows away no problem, the toilet is now cleared and you can flush away to your hearts content. The other hidden benefit of this method is it is a really effective way of cleaning the toilet due to the detergent.
